JDM All Stars

It’s been a week since I visited Wembley Stadium car park to watch some of the best drifting action on offer this year. I did feel sorry for the event organisers though, as the heavens opened just before lunchtime and drenched everyone, in keeping with our very British summer weather.

However despite the downpour, it was an awesome event, and a good time was had by all. Drifting started on the streets, and JDM Allstars have brought it back to its roots. While other drift series, like EDC, are pushing the drift scene on race circuits like Silverstone, there was something cool about the carpark set up in Wembley.

No matter whether you were sat in the grandstand or stood pressed up against the railings, you could see the whole circuit and all of the action. The atmosphere was electric as the cars scratched bumpers along the concrete barriers, and the crowds cheered them on.

As the asphalt got wetter, it also got more slippery. We saw drivers shunting the walls and bumpers flying off, much to the delight of the fans.

Even with all of the on-track drama’s the vibe in the paddock was totally cool. We even managed to lend some support to Japanese driver Kawabata, who had managed to lock his keys inside his Driving Sports Nissan S15. After popping the boot lock with a handy screwdriver, and getting his mechanic to climb through and unlock the doors, the banter continued and we found our driving hero of the day! Go Kawabata!

The big smoke machine drivers were also out in force. Bon Bon and Phil Morrison were on hand to help rip up the rear rubber and bathe Wembley in tyre smoke.

All in all JDM Allstars was a totally sweet event. If a round calls at a town near you then go and check it out – we’ll definitely be there, come rain or shine.

A top tip: Drinking five cans of Rackstar energy drink can send you a little shaky and mental as we discovered.
