If the R8 wasn’t already a real head turner, Audi have just announced a racing R8, dubbed the R16 and it’s available for those who like to go racing.
The new racing R8 is something a little more special than its meeker road-going brother. This pure-bred beast has 500 ponies raring to be set loose under the good foot, while the normal all-wheel drive is a no-no in sportscar racing’s GT3 class, meaning this new race-ready R8 becomes rear wheel-drive.
Head of Audi Motorsport Dr Wolfgang Ullrich said: "Ever since the R8 was unveiled we’ve been inundated with enquiries about a race version. With the Audi R8 we will offer customers a racing sportscar equipped with high-calibre technology and the typical Audi qualities, but which is nevertheless easy to handle."
