Spend a penny

Wow, another dull car campaign has landed in my inbox. But this time - instead of deleting it - I thought we could all have a bit of a laugh at its expense.
 
The offending item this time is from Chevrolet, and is a promotion for their new car - the Aveo – yet another non-descript little box that we will no doubt see pootling its way around supermarket car parks in the not too distant future.
 
Some PR agency has come up with the idea of putting an image of the Aveo on a billboard and then covering it in one-pence coins for people to pull off. Yawn!
 
To me the people in the pictures picking away at the coins look as if they are being forced to do so by a masked gunman, or worse still, a really enthusiastic runner holding a clipboard. Just check out the size of this woman’s hand – incredible and yet perfect for picking pennies off a poster.


 
Would you pick up pennies from the pavement? I suspect no – so why would you think all your Christmases had come at once if they were stuck to a billboard?
 
If they had stuck on pound coins up instead then happy days – we could buy a six-pack with only a few handfuls.
 
I guess its just cheap advertising for a cheap car – who cares about the Aveo anyway.
