Knockhill Round 3...
After a 5 hour drive up the A1 past Edinburgh I arrived at the hotel where a few competitors were already there, after refuelling ready for the next day I saw a few of the lads from Scoobclinic and we had a couple of drinks.
Up early and down to the track for a track morning to familiarise myself with it. After a few laps I was getting unofficial 1.01s, but thought I could knock 2-3 seconds off that. I made a few alterations to my suspension, and it appears I may have been running too high tyre pressures. I had some brand new Kumho V70's which were falling to bits and a flat spot now where I had locked up into the hairpin, but managed to keep it on track.
My aim for the day was to break 1 minute and finish in the top 10, no easy task considering the entry list.
Time Attack begins in earnest in the afternoon, and I start lapping in a practice, then clip the tyres on the entry to the chicane denting my wing but luckily not hitting the wheel.

The 1st of 2 qualifying sessions starts and I'm getting 1.00's good enough for 10th at this stage, during one lap a 200sx hits the same tyres as I did earlier but knocks them over and into the path of an on coming car, I got through just before they toppled.
2nd Qualifying starts but its been raining, (pro session had been cut short for safety), I changed tyres to Toyo 888's and set out, with a warm up lap time of 1.07, others seem to be taking it easy so I step on it passing a couple down the straight, 3rd lap in I post a 1.03 (turned out to be 2nd fastest that session)and push on, I over cook into the hairpin (again) and go of sideways, stoppinf a few metres short of the wall

I'm not happy, but manage to drive out of the trap and into the pits to inspect the damage. Lots of stone embedded in between the rim, the goog guys at e-tyre removed them for me.
For the Trophy Shoot Out Final, 2 flying laps was decided upon to give everyone a feel for the changing conditions, I went out and onto my first hot lap, much more water than before, nearly locking up on a couple of accasions, scrabbling for grip in the corners, 1.06, push on and try to shave a couple of seconds off, alls well until the final corner, over excited I get on the power too early and come out of the hairpin sideways getting a 1.07.
The 1.06 was good enough for 7th so I was still relatively pleased overall and the car was still in one piece for the long drive back.

Overall it was a great day, and very challenging track, I also got a chance to see a bit of the drifting which was awesome. A big thank you to Rob for organising it all, Opie Oils for the Castrol Edge oil, E-tyres for sorting my wheels after my off, 3-cam for the video equipment (video to follow), and the guys at RASP for sorting my car out as always.
One extra big special thankyou to all the crowd that braved the weather and stayed to watch what was some exciting fast track action and great drifting.
See you all at Brands Hatch
