Round 2 Silverstone
Oooooo Sunburn! How hot was that today.
The weekend started early for me with a mercy dash to help rescue Gunther Vallons in his XO Turbo EP3 who was stranded with a failed clutch on the Saturday night. After some messing around bleeding the system...what a sod of a job on a Civic!!!!! Gunther was eventually ready to roll and now in debt to the tune of a few beers!
Preperation for me didn't go quite to plan due to work commitments so I ended up running the car in pretty much same state as at Donnington.
I ran this event last year in my NA EP3 Civic and noticed then I was holding off the big powered cars on the bends only for them to power past when they hit the straights. I understand why now.
What I was finding was that the car was running wide on the bends and I physically couldnt go any quicker round them. This was loosing me loads of time.
Was pretty happy with my time given I ran 2 sconds quicker in my final than in practice and that was with full interior, road tires, boot full of bags...and spare wheel..... and standard Brembo's! Thank's Mark (Abbey Mark) for letting me know big brakes will arrive tomorrow! ![]()
Thing is for me it was a last minute switch to my "tuned" roadcar. I'm one of the only people running on standard road tires, and carrying this much weight. I could obviously go faster if the car was stripped and on track tires but when you compare my runs with the other GTR33 that is stripped, track prepared on correct tires and big brakes and it was only running 3 seconds quicker you start to wonder if there is any point.
Way to go with the Skyline is a stripped R32. Smaller, lighter and more nimble.
