Group: VW Mk1 Golf - The Legend
I love them. This is the original HOT HATCH! The grand daddy of an entire vehicle segment. In South Africa these little gems are still being pumped out of the Uitenhage plant by the thousands. No matter what you drive, there will always be a Mk1 Golf that will whoop your ass!

...there will always be a Mk1 Golf that will whoop your ass!! This video clip is an oldie but still one of my favorites. Its the highway street racing clip of a Supra vs 911 Porsche vs Mk1 Golf. The Golf hands out lashings to the Japanese and German supercars on every run. You just gotta luv!

This little car was a mint condition Golf GT until Elton got his dirty drag racing paws on it and turned it into a high 12-second, 102-octane slurping 1/4-mile dragster. Originally built by Dave Ingle Competition Engines in Cape Town, this car was an admired and very capable all rounder. The 2.0 20V engine was good for 160kW and 230Nm's (at the flywheel). This little car started life out as a 1984 1100 L. Today its a high 10-second runner in full street trim. Nope, it hasn't been gutted at all, but then again a Mk1 hatch coupe weighs next to nothing anyway. This car ran ten's on its second appearance on the strip. More pics and vids to follow
