To be a millionaire then lose it all could make the strongest person give up hope and to make it back then lose it a second time is either impressive or careless. Becoming a millionaire for a third time though takes guts and determination. This is Limo Bob's story, and it certainly has flavour.
Bob started his first limo company in Chicago in the 1970’s and soon became a successful businessman. However a disagreement with a former associate saw Bob’s entire fleet get taken out one by one and meant a swift relocation for him and his family following a flurry of death threats.
Returning to Chicago with no more than $30 in his pocket, Bob and his family set about rebuilding the business. Working part-time as a doorman to pay the bills, the irrepressible Bob bought a selecton of derelict cars from scrap yards and rebuilt these old bangers to form the backbone of his comeback fleet.
With his second business flourishing Bob was back and number one in the limo game, buying the longest car in Illinois. He was the owner of the world’s biggest and most exotic motors, including 40-footers with Jacuzzis, beds and rumble seats.
The fleet had Ferraris, Excaliburs, Rolls Royces, Mercedes and waiters in tuxedos that served clients with the finest cocktails and hors d’oeurves while they travelled in style.
When it seemed that life couldn’t get any sweeter, Limo Bob was offered a deal supposedly involving Kim Basinger and a Hollywood endorsement. But all was not as it seemed - the deal saw Bob ousted from his company his bank accounts emptied, and the king of limo’s was once again on skid row.
It was a place Bob had been before and he knew what he had to do to survive. He and his wife sold Barney dolls on street corners to feed their children, as the deal that turned on Bob included a non-competition agreement, he could not even look at a limo for five years without the risk of being sued.
While working on the nightclub circuit to raise capital, Limo Bob bought Sly Stallone’s Mercedes Benz and the limo king was back in the game again.
While at times all seemed to be stacked against this colourful character, he came back and today Limo Bob builds and sells some amazing cars including a stretched Boeing jet, which would blow your mind if you saw it rolling down the street!
