From early morning the streams of traffic descending into Silverstone Raceway was astonishing. Clubs and car crews from all over the UK headed down the motorways to set up pitch at what promised to be the event of the year!
The great thing about Trax is that it is not a static show and shine event, it gives everyone the chance to get to grips with the famous Silverstone circuit no matter what you drive, from Skyline’s to Ford Transit van’s. If you choose to only to visit one show in the UK, then Trax is the one that you should put in your diary.
With the EMMA ICE village, 0-60 sprint, drifting demos, passenger track rides, trade zone and club stands it's kid in a candyshop time for petrolheads. In the trade area the big names pulled out all the stops with live demos, competitions and give-aways.
The ICE village meanwhile had some amazing displays and top quality demo cars, showing the faultless work of the installers. The club paddock was over flowing with thousands of club members cars.
You'd think that would be enough to fill your day wouldn't you? The Trax boys weren't sure so on top of all this they lumped the final round of the tyre ripping D1 Drift GP. D1 has been hugely important recently, paving the way for the whole drift scene in the UK.
Like Drift displays in the USA, Silverstone's Brooklands corner complex turned into a mass of tyre smoke as competitors battled against each other, travelling sideways at speeds in excess of 70mph, putting the packed out crowd stands in pure drift heaven.
Thanks to Castrol and D1 God Andy Barnes (Sumo Power) I got a chance to go out in the HKS Drift car and experience drift from the passenger seat. The trip was like finding religion, I am now converted to Drift, I want a car, and I want to drift…
Trax truly ticked all the right boxes and I can’t wait till next year, roll on 2007!
