Evo powered Colt CZ3
Let’s face it; the Mitsubishi Colt was never going to impress the big bhp-boys. That’s unless you get yourself this saucy little number from Kosunen Racing.
Thanks to some crazy Finnish rally engineering, the once 1.3-litre 90hp Colt CZ3 is now a full-blown rallysprint contender with over 500bhp under the good foot.
The car now also sports a harder and wider look, having been fitted with a fully customised bodykit. The purpose of the additional glassfibre is, as you’d expect, not for fashion. It’s to make up for the fact the Finnish team have extended the wheelbase to match that of the Mitsubishi Evo IV.
The wheelbase is not the only thing to be donated from the Evo - the engine also got swapped over. A modified 4G63T motor now sits snugly at the front of the Colt.
The engine’s compression ratio is set to a mild 9:1, and the turbo from FIN-Turbo Oy’s boost pressure is set at 1.7 bar (24psi). The transplanted motor is controlled by a MoTec Ecu, and has been tuned by Autotyo Asko Kosonen, giving the driver over 500 galloping horses.
Although Kosunen Racing are keeping the exact power and torque figures close to their chest, they says the car is more than driveable between 3-7500 rpm, giving you more than enough to blast down the snowy trails and still scoot through town.
With over a years’ worth of development, 2009 could be the year that see’s the little car upset the bigger cars on the track.
