The Drive for More Fives Alive in Team Bray

The Perth Motorplex is among the most revered venues in Australian drag racing. It seems fitting that one of the most hotly contested events of the season will round out the first half of the championship at the Western Australian quarter-mile strip.

Due to the rain affected Australian Nationals, the Top Doorslammer field results will be as follows:
Whoever wins in Perth will be leading the championship into the Christmas break.

Victor Bray the man behind the drive for more fives in Team Bray would love an early Christmas present and be in the position to bank as many as possible of the 50% bonus points on offer for this event.

“It was back in September 2005 that John Zappia did something the Top Doorslammer / Pro Mod world had long been waiting for. His 5.967 / 241.97 pass during the final round of eliminations at the opening round of the 05/06 season the East Coast Nationals was the first five-second pass in legal trim.

It was just over 13 mths later October 2006 that Josh Hernandez did the USA proud with his 5.990-second pass during the second round of eliminations at the IHRA World finals at Rockingham Dragway.

In June this year at the Castrol EDGE Winternationals we unlocked the code and Benny was able to give the Team its 1st 5 second pass in Top Doorslammer. I have watched Zap peel them off with monotonous regularity.  Ben has got bragging rights at the dinner table and I need that changed by Christmas.” Victor said

Ben Bray is eager to continue with his current form when he gets behind the wheel for the second event of the Top Doorslammer season this weekend in Perth.

Ben claimed top qualifier and low ET points at the opener in Sydney last time out. This enabled his maintaining a fine run of form stretching back to the Castrol EDGE Winternationals with four 5 second passes.

Ben, now in his third season with his Holden Monaro, is hoping to continue that run in Perth. While he concedes that Q1 position in Sydney was the perfect start for the team, he is refusing to get carried away by speculation that this could be a Bray year.

He said: "The win at the Winters was just what we needed. To carry on the momentum of last year straight into the first race was great, so we have to go out at the Motorplex and do the same.

"We're happy with the start we've made and we're not kidding ourselves that it's going to be easy. We know we're going to have to work for it."

Friday night qualifying kicks off at 5:00pm (Perth Time) at 6:00pm the first of three qualifying sessions for Top Doorslammers. Then at 8:00pm second qualifying session for the Doorslammers. This before the all important final qualifying session for the slammers starts at approximately 10:00pm.
With 9 drivers fighting for only 8 places in the field expect plenty of action as each racer not only tries to make the field but also tries to improve on their qualifying position in readiness for the all important eliminations on Saturday.

Then comes Saturday Eliminations set down to be run at 6:00pm, 8:00pm and 10:00pm so for all our east coast fans stay logged onto victorbray.com over the week end as we will be updating the site continually with Results….here
